In fact, you should keep animals (other than dogs) away from the Beagle. Still, the Beagle is known as a gentle dog with a good temper.

This breed doesn’t like to be left alone. If you’re worried about giving it too much me- time you can always get them another Beagle to bond with. Beagles howl, especially in solitude. You may have to train them to control this noise as well as their bark. They like running around the yard, you should have large room or yard in your house for have this dog.

If they were better with other animals and didn’t need constant monitoring when outdoors, the Beagle might be in our top five. The Saint Bernard is an enormous dog with a shaggy coat that varies in length.

They have endearing saggy faces with adorable droopy eyes. Adult Saint Bernards are laid-back and they seem to follow you around, constantly wanting to accompany you.

The Saint Bernard breed is not for everybody. Owning one is a commitment and the breed is for absolute animal lovers because they can be very high maintenance. People who have trained and managed their Saint Bernards properly will have very rewarding experiences with the canine.

Saint Bernards are dependable and loyal creatures. They are great family dogs and thrive in human companionship. They don't want to be left alone. Saint Bernards are miserable without their owners. A large family will be most beneficial for this breed because there will always be people around.

As pups, Saint Bernards are more expressive with their excitement. They are very active and awfully charming. They are large clumsy puppies and they will often use their girth to get their way.

The key to having a manageable Saint Bernard is through socializing, training and curbing unpleasant behavior as early as possible. While they are still young they must be socialized with members of the family. Gradually, they will develop sense of familiarity with his 'pack'.

The next thing, and maybe the most important, is obedience and house training your young Saints. It is imperative that owners should potty train them. Give the dog a designated area to eliminate their wastes.

Detect the signs they display when they have the urge to go. Immediately place them to the designated area and stay with them until they finish the deed. Do this consistently until they get used to the idea. Always shower them with vocal praises like 'Good Dog!' or show some physical affection after every successful endeavor.

Obedience training is not an option for Saint Bernards; it is a necessity. Basic commands like sit, stand, heel, and come must be implemented to make them manageable. Curb bad behavior by consistently and firmly saying 'No!' when disagreeable deeds are done. Be assertive but never harsh. Compliance must be lavishly praised. Saint Bernards are very intelligent and they will catch up in no time.

When they grow up to their gigantic sizes, they will be easier to manage because the early training had conditioned their minds. The vet will surely thank your determination.

Saint Bernards need regular exercise to keep them fit. They tend to be lazy on their own but they won't shy away from physical work out if they are accompanied by their owners. Grooming must also be done regularly. Brush their coats frequently to cope with their shedding.
Saint Bernards drool a lot and you must learn to embrace this. It is in their nature.

Spread their feedings into two to three small meals a day. They prone to bloat and may cause serious health problems if not dealt accordingly. Always feed them high-grade dog food which tends to provide better nutrition for your Saint.

Overall, Saint Bernards are devoted and loving dogs. Dealing with them needs patience and determination and when done, as it should be, they are a joy to be around. Their companionship and dependability is worthwhile.

Published At: Isnare Free Articles Directory http://www.isnare.comPermanent Link: http://www.isnare.com/?aid=411688&ca=Pets

To quicky curb all sorts of dog and puppy problems, click the link to claim your free dog training video on how to How to Train a Saint Bernard... or send a completely blank email to trainmybaddog@aweber.com

The Most Important Dog Training Tip

Submitted By: Jason Ellis

The internet is overflowing with an abundance of Dog Training tips. However it seems that so many articles out there overlook the MOST important one.

It’s the one tip that will set the stage for the rest of your dog training efforts. The most important dog training tip is knowing how to be the “Alpha Dog” so your little buddy will respect you and follow your commands with obedient attention. This article is going to show you how to accomplish just that.

Take the lead and be the Alpha Dog…

Dogs naturally have a pack mentality. There's no getting around it. You must establish yourself as the pack leader.

Some people find it difficult to create dominance over their puppy. After all, your puppy is just "sooo cute". How can you look at that adorable face and be stern?

The simple truth is your dog WANTS to be led.

All dogs have either Alpha or Beta qualities. If your dog has strong Alpha qualities, he will compete with you for leadership. Let the dog win this battle and you'll be following HIS rules.
You need to be consistent with your dog training, rule setting and dominance or your dog will feel like he needs to take the top spot on the hierarchy.

Conversely, if your dog has a Beta type personality and you don't establish clear rules, he will become anxious and confused. Without a leader the dog may become fearful, confused or aggressive.

As a dog owner, your responsibility is to train your dog to understand that YOU are the "Alpha Dog" of the pack.

By acting like the "Alpha Dog", your dog will be able to instinctively relax and just follow your lead.

Additionally, your family members or other owners must establish themselves on the hierarchy of the pack. Your dog should understand that he is the lowest on the chain and it is his place to follow everyone's lead.

This will create a friendly, obedient and submissive dog that is respectful of your commands. Really the point of all this is to have your dog's respect and obtain control.
E
verything you do from the moment you get your puppy will either build upon your Alpha role or take away from it.

That's why it is so important to have a clear understanding of rules before you get your dog.
When you stick to hard and fast boundaries for your dog's behavior, he will begin to understand what he can and can't get away with. This also includes feeding him on a set schedule.

As he realizes YOU'RE the boss, he will comply effortlessly with the kind of behavior you expect.
Part of this strategy involves the immediate correction of disapproved behavior with acceptable behavior. A good example of this is when your dog is chewing on one of your shoes and you replace the shoe with an approved chew toy.

You must also immediately follow the bad behavior with a sharp "No" and ALWAYS encourage any good behavior with "Good Boy". This taps into the power of positive reinforcement dog training.

I expand on this in other articles. But for now, know that these two phrases are "trigger commands". Over time, they will become incredibly powerful so use them appropriately.
Now you have a much better understanding of how dogs think. So don't feel bad about enforcing rules to your dog. It's actually comforting to him.

By establishing your role as the leader, you make your dog's life less chaotic and can train him
knowing you are doing the right thing.

Published At: Isnare Free Articles Directory http://www.isnare.comPermanent Link: http://www.isnare.com/?aid=416198&ca=Pets

You can find Jason's complete dog training course at http://www.Dog-Training-Works.com

How to Train a Beagle

Submitted By: T Brown

Beagles are very popular dogs, especially in the United States. They are full of personality and oozing with cuteness particularly when they are young pups. They are active, eager to please, very intelligent, and always exploring.

Origin:

Beagles belong to the hound group. They were cross-bred from other hounds and hunting dogs by English hunters. They are primarily bred to be scent dogs; tracking game animals like hares and rabbits.

The name Beagle may likely come from the French word "be’geule" referring to the howling voice of the hound in pursuit of game animals.
Appearance and Abilities:

A Beagle is small to medium sized dog with a muscled physique. They are double-coated, short-haired canines that come in tri-color black, brown, and white.

Their faces have the cute pleading look that will melt your heart. They have long and large ears that hang on the sides of their faces. Their sense of smell is remarkable and is considered one of their trademark ability.

Temperament and Tendencies:

Beagles have a penchant for exploring. Therefore, they have a strong tendency to stray. A fenced yard is required to make it easier for owners to confine their Beagles within their control.
Beagles are not afraid to get dirty. As long as the scent is traceable they will go through any filthy nook to track its origin.

Companionship is very important for beagles. They thrive on it. It may be a good idea to have more than one Beagle in your house because if you leave them by themselves they can keep each other company. Giving them inadequate attention will give them anxiety and they will become agitated.

Training and Care:

Before training Beagles, you must understand that they are scent hunters and are easily distracted. Naturally, they are intelligent creatures but when natural instinct kicks in, such as catching a scent, it makes them difficult to train because they are predisposed to track that scent.

So, to counter this innate behavior, you must train them in a fenced area where there are few distractions. This can be quite a challenge because Beagles have excellent noses.

When you are going out for a walk, it is vital to leash the Beagle because it will wander away from you if given a chance. Simple commands such as “come” and “stay” must be taught to the Beagle. This is essential for easier management.

Once you have their attention, the Beagle is very easy to train. They catch up fast especially with positive reinforcement. Reinforce positive behavior consistently and they will stick to it for the rest of their lives.

They can be very independent if they find their owners as meek leaders. You must establish your dominance over your Beagle. Be firm with your leadership so the Beagle will tend to seek your approval in its every action.

Socialization is also very important. Start early. Introduce him to all of your family members, friends, and other house pets so that the Beagle will become familiar of their scents and won’t be easily distracted if the Beagle catches their odor.

Published At: Isnare Free Articles Directory http://www.isnare.comPermanent Link: http://www.isnare.com/?aid=415507&ca=Pets

To quickly curb all sorts of dog and puppy problems, click the link to claim your free dog training video on how to How to train a Beagle or send a completely blank email to trainmybaddog@aweber.com

Picking the Right Dog For a Hunting Partner

Submitted By: Lizzie Novotny

Choosing a puppy and picking a hunting partner is a big decision. While a family dog still needs to be carefully selected to fit into your home life, deciding on the right hunting dog requires a bit more forethought.Breed and Breeder

Most important... is what breed of dog best suits your hunting needs. While some breeds crossover well, others tend to excel in one area.

Books and the Internet are invaluable research tools. This can help you understand how different breeds deal with home life or how much non-hunting exercise they will require.
Don't skimp on this step, in-depth research should help you narrow down your choices.
Visit local breeders of the types of dogs you are considering.

Talk to them about the type of hunting you do, your home situation, and how much time you are willing to devote to training.

Breeders don't just want to sell dogs; their reputations rely on putting the right dog with the right person and situation.

Inform them what your future plans are with the dog. After meeting with breeders, you should have a good idea which dog is right for you.Litter

Choosing a puppyWhile bloodline doesn't matter in a family pet, it is of the utmost importance when choosing a puppy that will become your hunting dog.

Be sure to see both parents and take a good look at their pedigrees. People who breed show dogs often select those that lack the traits useful in a hunting dog, so avoid litters by dogs bred for show. Though this is not always the case.

After finding parents that look good on paper, ask to tag along to watch the parents train, or better yet, join them on an actual hunt. An experienced breeder won't hesitate to prove their dogs' bloodline, but remember you will be paying for that heritage as well as for the individual puppy.

Choosing a Puppy

Choosing a puppyIf your earlier research was thorough, you should know what traits to look for in the breed you have selected.

However, choosing a puppy goes beyond physical characteristics; proper disposition is imperative in a hunting dog.

Do not choose a pup prior to six weeks of age as their temperament can still change in that time.
As most breeders won't allow pups to leave their mother until seven or eight weeks old, this still leaves a fair window for you to select the one that meets your needs before they are sold. Some breeders prefer to wait 10 weeks.

Ask the breeder his opinion which pup might be a good match for your situation. The breeder would have spent quite a bit of time with his puppies, and has figured out the most dominate, friendly, independent, skittish, etc. Every dog has their own unique personality.
You want to look for a pup that is not shy or skittish; the one that wanders over to lick your hand is a good contender.

However, if a pup tries to lay claim to you, they are likely dominant which could be a problem later on, so be sure dominance is something you want in a dog before selecting a puppy that displays the trait.

A big issue for a prospective hunting dog, is how the pup will react to noise. Get down low to the ground and make a loud sound. If a puppy runs off and doesn't come back to you, they may not be the best choice for hunting.

You also want your pup to have been physically handled by the breeder, so they are not afraid of human interaction.

If you follow these steps and make sure you pick the right breeder, litter and puppy, you will be well on your way. Remember that choosing a puppy is itself a first step; proper training once you get your new addition home is crucial.

Published At: Isnare Free Articles Directory http://www.isnare.comPermanent Link: http://www.isnare.com/?aid=421478&ca=Pets

Lizzie Novotny R.N has a researched and informative website about dogs, especially the hunting dog breeds.
